Idea #14: Facebook Commentary Videos
You don't need original ideas. Find what's already viral, add your commentary, Facebook pays you. $10K-$35K/month doing this 3 hours/week.
When it all clicks.
Why does business news feel like it’s written for people who already get it?
Morning Brew changes that.
It’s a free newsletter that breaks down what’s going on in business, finance, and tech — clearly, quickly, and with enough personality to keep things interesting. The result? You don’t just skim headlines. You actually understand what’s going on.
Try it yourself and join over 4 million professionals reading daily.
Hey buddy,
Today's WiFi Moolah idea is for anyone who scrolls social media anyway and has opinions about what they see.
Facebook Commentary Videos
Example: Creator makes $10,000-$35,000/month posting commentary videos to Facebook. Started from zero followers 2 years ago. Works 3 hours/week. Individual videos cost $10 to edit, earn $500-$2,000 each. Recent examples: Bonfire video $2,000, Costco post $110, Donuts $70.
Why it works:
Real creator: $10K-$35K/month profit, 3 hours/week, started from zero
Videos cost $10 to edit, make $500-$2,000 each
Facebook has 2.1 billion daily users but NOT enough creators (supply/demand imbalance)
Facebook PAYS creators because they need content (unlike Instagram)
Business niche pays $0.25 per 1,000 views (5x more than gaming at $0.05)
Legal under fair use if you add commentary/insights (not just reactions)
Don't need original ideas - find viral content, add your take
Can cross-post same video to YouTube Shorts, TikTok, Instagram
Time investment: 3 hours/week
Potential income: $2,000-$35,000/month
Difficulty: Beginner-Intermediate
Startup cost: $0-$150
Where I found it: A YouTube video by a creator showing Meta Business Suite with $500-$2,000 per video, $0.25 per 1K views business niche, started zero followers 2 years ago
Tools you'd need:
Instagram (for finding content - FREE)
DJI Mic 2 ($60-150, or phone mic FREE)
CapCut or Edits (FREE)
Fiverr editor (optional, $10/video)
Gemini AI for scripts (FREE)
Beehiiv for newsletter (FREE tier)
The catch:
Must add genuine value/commentary (not just "wow" reactions)
Takes months to get Facebook monetization invite (no defined metrics, just consistency)
First 3-6 months = $0 while waiting for invite
Algorithm punishes cross-posting (must upload natively)
Need actual insights to share (can't fake it)
Platform could change rules anytime
My take:
This is one of the most "unfair advantage" strategies I've seen.
The creator scrolls Instagram, finds viral business content (already proven with 500K-5M views), records his take on it, and makes $500-$2,000 per video.
His exact process:
Scroll Instagram research account for viral content in his niche (business)
Click on likes to see view count (500K-5M = proven viral)
Bookmark videos that inspire ideas
Record himself on iPhone with DJI Mic 2 giving his take (5-10 min)
Edit in CapCut: Remove pauses, green screen overlay, shrink himself to corner, add captions
Upload NATIVELY to Facebook (never cross-post - kills reach)
Tag original creator
Pin comment with newsletter landing page link
Example: Found viral video about woman making $150K in 6 months with junk removal business. His take: "Step 1 they said 'buy dump truck' - absolutely not, that's tens of thousands. Step 1 should be find a paying customer." He breaks down better approach, references other businesses he knows. That's transformative commentary = legal fair use.
The REAL money: He drives all Facebook traffic to newsletter. Went from 96,000 to 250,000 subscribers in 12 months organically. Uses SparkLoop which pays $0.50-$5 per email. That's ADDITIONAL $2K-$5K/month on top of Facebook earnings.
Fair use explained: You MUST add value. Can't just download and repost. Must provide:
Commentary ("Here's what they got wrong...")
Criticism ("I'd do this differently because...")
Transformation ("This reminds me of when I...")
Just reacting ("Oh wow!") = NOT protected, will get flagged.
Money math:
Conservative (Month 1-6, not monetized):
50-100 videos posted
Waiting for Facebook invite
Income: $0 from Facebook, $50-200/month from email list building
Moderate (Month 7-12, monetized):
150-200 videos, monetized
Average 100K views/video
$0.25 per 1K views
Income: $500/month Facebook + $500/month emails = $1,000/month
Costs: $150/month editor
Net: $850/month
Aggressive (18-24 months, creator's level):
300+ videos, multiple viral hits
Income: $10K-$35K/month Facebook + $2K-$5K/month emails = $12K-$40K/month
Costs: $600/month editor
Net: $11.4K-$39.4K/month
Time: 3 hours/week
If you want to explore this:
Week 1-4: Setup + First 10 Videos
Create fresh Instagram account for research
Search/engage with content in your niche (let algorithm learn)
Create Facebook Page (not personal profile)
Study how viral content in your niche works
Find 10 viral videos (500K+ views)
Record yourself adding commentary (use Gemini AI if stuck on ideas)
Edit in CapCut (cut pauses, green screen, captions)
Upload NATIVELY to Facebook
Tag creator, pin comment with newsletter link
Set up basic landing page (Card or Beehive)
Month 2-6: Build Consistency
Post 3-5 videos/week minimum
Batch create (find 10-15 videos one day, record all another day)
Send to Fiverr for $10 editing OR edit yourself
Study what performs best
Keep linking newsletter in every post
Wait for Facebook monetization invite
Month 7-12: Scale
Once monetized: double down on what earns most
Focus on business/finance niche (highest CPM)
Build email list aggressively
Set up SparkLoop for email monetization
Keep posting 3-5x/week
Total time: 3 hours/week
Critical rules:
NEVER cross-post: Instagram has "Post to Facebook?" toggle - DO NOT use it. Upload natively to each platform. Manual and tedious, but you'll get 5-10x more views.
Always tag creators: Search for them, tag in post. "I don't legally have to, but it's the right thing to do."
Niches that pay:
Business/Finance: $0.25 per 1K views
Real Estate: $0.20 per 1K
Tech: $0.20 per 1K
Fitness: $0.12 per 1K
Cooking: $0.10 per 1K
Gaming: $0.05 per 1K
Choose wisely. Business pays 5x more than gaming.
Common mistakes:
Just reacting to videos ("Oh wow") - not fair use, gets flagged
Cross-posting from Instagram - kills reach
Not tagging creators - ethically questionable
Giving up before monetization (takes months)
Not building email list - missing real gold
Choosing low-CPM niches
Not cutting out dead space in editing
Red flags this isn't for you:
No opinions/insights about anything
Uncomfortable with fair use even when legal
Can't post 3-5x/week for 6+ months
Give up when no immediate money
Don't want to build email list
Want passive income (this is active, just efficient)
Pro tips from the creator:
"Every video needs a retention hack - hook at start, payoff at end."
"Take hard stances. No nuance if you want viral. Post your hot takes."
"If you mess up while recording with script, just start over - faster than editing."
"I didn't know how to edit pauses for first 50-100 videos. Just kept retaking until I got it right."
Started less than 2 years ago from ZERO followers. Had small Twitter account, that's it. Just started posting, saw what worked, did more of it.
The newsletter is everything: "Social platforms don't let you own anything. Algorithm changes and reach disappears. Email is the only channel where you own your audience."
Newsletter growth: 96K to 250K in 12 months. Mostly from that one link in Facebook comments. SparkLoop pays $0.50-$5 per email = $2K-$5K/month extra.
The waiting game:
Unlike YouTube (1K subs + 4K watch hours), Facebook is invite-only. No public metrics. Just:
Post consistently
Add real value
No violations
Usually 3-6 months
You'll get email: "Apply to Facebook Content Monetization." Apply immediately.
Platform comparison:
Creator posts same content everywhere:
Facebook: $10K-$35K/month (primary)
YouTube Shorts: $0.25 per 1K (same as Facebook)
Instagram: Audience building
TikTok: Reach
Twitter: Photo/text content inspiration
LinkedIn, Snapchat, Threads
Same video, all platforms = multiply earnings.
Beyond videos:
Also works with:
Photos (screenshot viral Twitter posts, add your take)
Text posts (your insights)
Carousels (multiple images)
Facebook pays for ALL content types.
Reality check:
"Law of abundance. There's 2.1 billion people on Facebook daily and not enough creators. There's room for everyone."
Creator kept this secret for years, worried people would steal it. Then realized: supply/demand is so imbalanced, everyone can win.
Most won't hit $35K/month. But $2K-$10K/month is very achievable in 12-18 months with:
Daily consistency
Business/finance niche
Newsletter building
Fair use commentary
That's $24K-$120K/year from content you can batch-create in 3 hours/week once you have a system.
That’s it for today’s idea.
Talk soon, Kris
P.S. - Creator started from zero. Literally zero followers across all platforms 2 years ago. Now makes $10K-$35K/month in 3 hours/week. The process: scroll Instagram → find viral content → record your take → edit → post → collect checks. If you scroll social media anyway, you might as well get paid for having opinions about what you see.
